Central America Travel Guide
Central America is brimming with diversity, beauty, and history. Central America is made up of the countries of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, and has quickly become one of my favorite destinations for jungle adventures, surfing, and scuba diving.
While some areas have political troubles that have affected tourism, Central America is indeed a beautiful region that you need to visit. Catch some waves in Costa Rica, experience the culture in Panama City, scuba dive the Blue Hole in Belize, visit the cacao farms of Bocas Del Toro, and grab some coffee in Guatemala—the opportunity for adventure is endless!
Central America is one of the most popular vacation spots for Americans. However, due to its diverse landscape and tropical climate, you need to plan around hurricanes and heat waves if you want good weather.
As a whole, the best time to visit any of the seven countries in Central America is during the dry season. From November to April, you can explore Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala without having to worry about heavy storms ruining your vacation.
If you’re a surfer, you’ll want to visit El Salvador during the wet season. From March to November, the waves are at their best, and you’ll be in time for sea turtles nesting on the beaches!

What To Expect
Belize: Belize is one of my favorite scuba diving destinations in the world! The Great Blue Hole offers an incredible diving adventure, and I highly recommend getting your diving certification here (or beforehand) for the chance to explore it!
Costa Rica: Costa Rica is the adventure capital of Central America. Plan a vacation here, and you’ll find an easygoing vibe along with massive beach parties, pristine cloud forests, and amazing wildlife.
El Salvador: El Salvador is home to some of Central America’s best beaches. However, it does have a reputation for being unsafe due to its high crime rates. As a precaution, don’t travel around at night or walk alone.
Guatemala: Whether you’re an adventure seeker, culture lover, or beach worshipper, Guatemala is a destination that has something for everyone. Antigua has a great foodie scene!
Honduras: Honduras is one of the cheapest places in the world to get certified for scuba diving. Head to the Bay Islands and choose from a bunch of different dive centers.
Nicaragua: If Costa Rica is too expensive for your budget, travel to cheaper Nicaragua. It’s a popular backpacking destination in Central America, making it an excellent option for solo travelers who want to make some new friends on the road.
Panama: Panama is another of my favorite destinations in Central America. I fell in love with Panama City and had so much fun exploring San Blas, and Bocas del Toro. Plus, it’s only a 2.5-hour flight from Miami!
