There’s nothing quite like that first float in the Dead Sea—it’s weird, wonderful, and totally unforgettable.
I’ve visited the Dead Sea a few times now, and every time, I find myself back at Kempinski Hotel Ishtar. It’s just hard to beat! Set right along the northern shoreline, the resort has direct beach access, nine pools (yes, nine!), and one of the dreamiest infinity pools I’ve ever seen. It literally looks like it spills right into the sea.
The vibe is relaxed luxury, with Arabic-inspired architecture, lush gardens, and little waterfalls tucked throughout the property. You’ll find plenty of dining options, one of the largest spas in the region, and spacious rooms with balconies made for watching the sunset over the Dead Sea.
While I’m usually all about cute boutique hotels, Jordan’s Dead Sea region is mostly home to large resorts, and Kempinski is absolutely worth the splurge.
Here’s my experience staying at Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea.
Getting There
Kempinski Hotel Ishtar is about an hour’s drive from Queen Alia International Airport, and you have a few options to get here. You can grab a taxi, rent a car, or, if you’re in the mood to kick things off in style, book a luxe transfer through the hotel.
Just ask the concierge to arrange your pick-up or drop-off and enjoy a chauffeur-driven limousine ride straight to the Dead Sea. Because honestly, if you’re heading to the lowest point on Earth, you might as well arrive in high style.
Services & Amenities
The resort isn’t just a place to sleep at night, it’s a destination in itself! Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your stay.
Pools on pools: Yes, there are nine outdoor pools here, including one of the most gorgeous infinity pools I’ve ever seen. It literally melts into the Dead Sea and makes for the dreamiest swim (and photo op). Safe to say, pool-hopping is highly encouraged.
Spa: If you’re into wellness, prepare to be obsessed. The Ishtar Spa by Resense is one of the biggest in the Middle East and offers everything from Dead Sea salt scrubs to full-on hammam rituals. You’ll find indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, and heated lounges.
Fitness center: Open 24/7 with all the latest equipment and ocean-view windows that make that treadmill a little more bearable. You can also book a personal trainer if you’re feeling extra motivated.
Lady in Red: This isn’t just a fun title; she’s your go-to for anything you need during your stay. The Lady in Red is part concierge, part local expert, and totally iconic. She’s been helping guests feel at home here for over a decade.
Tennis Court: Yes, you can play tennis at the lowest point on Earth. The court is outdoors, right near the spa, and perfect for a match under the warm Dead Sea sun. Just book ahead to lock in your game time.
Concierge service: Need a recommendation? A reservation? A plan for the perfect day trip? The concierge team here knows everything about the Dead Sea region and can help you sort out all the details, big or small.
The Location
Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea is set right on the shores of the Dead Sea, with direct beach access, so you can roll out of bed and float in the water within minutes.
Most of the resorts are clustered around the northern end of the coast, and while that means plenty of choice, it can also feel a little crowded. Kempinski is tucked just far enough away to feel peaceful, but still close to everything you’ll want to explore.
The Rooms
The rooms at Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea are tucked among palm trees and olive groves, with every room and suite offering either a balcony or terrace that open up to dreamy views of the sea.
With over 300 rooms and suites spread between the main building and the village area, there’s a lot of space.
That said, it’s not the most intimate or boutique-style stay, so while the amenities are luxe, you might not get the ultra-personalised service of a smaller resort.
If you’re after a wellness-focused escape, check out the Panoramic Room by Resense Spa. You’ll get access to the spa’s wet area, a discount on treatments, and a room stocked with yoga mats, healthy snacks, and a few fitness extras like resistance bands and a jump rope.
There are spacious interconnecting rooms in the main building, which are perfect for those traveling with family or friends. The rooms give you double the space without compromising on comfort or views.
Dining
The food. Oh the food! There are so many amazing dining options on-site that you could easily spend your entire stay taste-testing your way through the resort.
The Edge Social Lounge: For elevated drinks and dinner with a view, this is the spot. It’s sophisticated with international dishes, live music, and the kind of spot that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Open for dinner only, so make a night of it.
Rehan Lebanese Cuisine: I had some of the best Lebanese food I’ve ever eaten here! Make sure to request a table at sunset on the balcony closest to the edge for the best views and if you’re dining with a group, order the mighty metre kebab—yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
Blu Mediterranean Flavours: If you only have time for one meal at the resort, make it this one. The views are STUNNING, the Mediterranean menu is fresh and flavorful, and sunset here is pure magic. Come for lunch or dinner, and definitely bring your camera.
Akkad Pool and Grill: Casual, sun-soaked, and super tasty. This is your go-to for poolside snacks, fresh salads, grilled mains, and house-made ice cream. There’s also a cocktail menu if you’re in the mood for something fruity and refreshing while you lounge in the sun.
The Obelisk Restaurant: Your classic all-day buffet with a twist. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with indoor and outdoor seating. Great for fuelling up before a big day of exploring, or winding down after.
Sumerian Terrace: This all-day lounge has everything from coffee and pastries to wine and aperitifs. It’s a great spot for a low-key drink with gorgeous Dead Sea views. You can sit inside or head out to the terrace for that golden hour glow.
Activities & Experiences
Whether you’re here for adventure, history, or a little bit of both, there’s so much to see and do around the Dead Sea
Dead Sea Experience: You can’t come to the Dead Sea and not slather yourself in the famous mud. It’s packed with salts and minerals that leave your skin glowing. The hotel makes it super easy with tubs of mud, salt scrubs, and even beachside mirrors so you can really go for it.
The Baptism Site: Just a short drive from the hotel, this is believed to be the site where John baptized Jesus. It’s peaceful, moving, and totally worth the visit, especially if you’re interested in history or spirituality. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the hotel concierge can help you plan a visit.
Jerash: About an hour and a half from the resort, Jerash is one of the most impressive Roman cities outside of Italy. Think soaring columns and ancient amphitheatres they make you feel like you’re stepping into the past.
Wadi Mujib Gorge: This one’s for the adventure lovers. Located just 30 minutes away, Wadi Mujib is a slot canyon that offers one of Jordan’s most exciting hikes, complete with rock scrambling, wading through water, and even a 20-meter waterfall.
Mount Nebo: Only 30 minutes from the hotel, Mount Nebo is where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land. On a clear day, you’ll get sweeping views over the Dead Sea, the Jordan Valley, and even Jerusalem. It’s peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a half-day trip.

Kids Experiences
This resort isn’t just a dream for grown-ups, it’s also amazing for kids.
With nine pools to splash around in and plenty of space to roam, little ones will be living their best resort life right alongside you.
For a bit of extra fun (and maybe some well-earned downtime for the parents), check out the Titan Tikes Kids Club. Open to kids aged 2 to 12, it’s packed with activities like board games, LEGO, and Wii games, plus loads of outdoor play so they can enjoy that fresh Dead Sea air.
The club is tucked away on the ground floor of the Ishtar building, just behind the Akkad restaurant. Daily entry is JOD 10 plus tax and service, which includes all the snacks and drinks your kiddos can handle.
Whether they’re building, gaming, or running around in the sunshine, they’ll have a blast… and you might just get to enjoy a poolside cocktail in peace.
Sustainability
Luxury shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet, and at Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea, it doesn’t. The hotel has earned Bronze Benchmark status from EarthCheck, a global leader in sustainability for the travel and tourism industry, due to its work to protect the Dead Sea and give back to the local community.
Their efforts go beyond ticking boxes. Some initiatives include planting 50 trees around staff housing for Earth Day, adding recycling stations across offices, kitchens, and even the beach, and partnering with local organizations to create a more positive impact.
It’s the kind of commitment every hotel should have: thoughtful, ongoing, and built into daily operations, not just for guests but for the future of the destination itself.
In My Opinion
If you’re heading to the Dead Sea and want a stay that’s equal parts luxurious and laid-back, Kempinski Ishtar won’t disappoint.
With dreamy pools, a world-class spa, and direct beach access for some DIY mud-and-float wellness, it’s got everything you need and then some for the ultimate Dead Sea experience.
