One of my top travel beauty hacks for lowering your luggage weight for a trip is to avoid bringing lots of clothes and to bring fun accessories instead! A big part of successful packing is bringing the right jewelry, and being smart about what you will actually wear along your adventures.

While jewelry takes up much less space in your bag, it could also mean that you’re packing more precious (and expensive!) cargo. No matter how careful you are, stones can become loose, hotels are not guaranteed safe places to leave jewelry, and a sandy beach can swallow up a jewel forever.

Here are my best traveling tips for jewelry!

Tips for Traveling with Jewelry

Make a list. List all the jewelry you’ll take with you. Keep one copy with you and store it separately from your jewelry. Leave another copy at home. Also take pictures or a video of your jewelry.
Carry it on. Never put jewelry in checked baggage. Instead, wear it or stow it in your carryon bag. If you wear it, take extra care by slipping a pendant inside a sweater or turning your ring so only the band shows.
Keep it with you. Put your jewelry in a favorite bag you’ll carry while traveling. Don’t leave your jewelry in an unattended car or suitcase. When checking into your hotel or condo, don’t hand your jewelry bag to hotel staff. Carry it personally.
Use the safe. Always store jewelry in the in-room safe when you’re not wearing it.
Get jewelry insurance. Jewelers Mutual’s Jewelry Insurance coverage lets you travel worry-free knowing your jewelry is protected.

Lastly, the most important, choose wisely!

Pack light and take only the jewelry you’ll wear while traveling and at your destination. The 4-carat diamond ring you save for special occasions? Probably not. The pearls that go with everything? Definitely.

The kind of jewelry you travel with is just as important as how you pack it- all we want is style in the lightest luggage ever, right?!

I always bring lots of rings with me, because first off- I’m obsessed- but also they are the most tangle-resistant jewelry there is.

Secondly, I travel with chunky statement necklaces because they are less likely (although possbile) to get tangled into a giant ball of gold chain as smaller necklaces may.

Lastly, bangles are a girls best friend, so I always have simple gold and silver bangles in my jewelry bag in case I need to spice up an outfit in a hurry.

This was the year I stopped measuring life in miles traveled… and started measuring it in the days we weren’t promised.

Not in passport stamps.
Not in hotel check-ins.
Not in how far we could go.

But in the quiet relief of “clear.”
In small hands squeezing mine tighter.
In birthday candles and quiet camping mornings.
In laughter that came back after fear.

2025 was the plot twist year.

The year I learned strength doesn’t look like control —
it looks like surrender.
It looks like showing up anyway.
It looks like choosing joy even when you know how fragile it is.

And it looks like being surrounded by the people who love us most.

You got me when you said that your pieces of jewelry must be placed in a safe when you’re not wearing them. This was something that I failed to do when I traveled with my husband last month. I placed my gold necklace in a bag, and I totally forgot about it. When I checked it, it chains have damages that I don’t know how to fix. I’ll be sure to have it repaired, and I will follow all your tips after.
